Coping with Calamities and Misfortune

Back in June, 2010, when the world’s attention was riveted on the Gulf of Mexico and the oil disaster there, I asked for some help to come to terms with that devastating situation.  I really wanted to know how to stay out of fear, while at the same time NOT blaming those whom I felt were “responsible.”  Most of all, I wanted to know how to view this in alignment with the “Course” teachings.  Now again on the world stage we are witnessing the development of what appears to be two even more horrific events, the earthquake/tsunami/radiation fallout scenario in Japan and its twin, the engagement in Libya.  In view of these recent events, it now seems most appropriate to share with you what the Holy Spirit gave me through Karen.   Whenever any “calamity,” personal or otherwise, arises in my awareness to disturb my peace, I return to this prayer and have found that it truly works miracles.

As an aside, it would be helpful to remind ourselves that whenever we bring “something” to the Holy Spirit, we are in fact, stepping out of the “dream,” at least for that moment.  One could even make a case for the notion that rather than avoiding them, we may wish to welcome uncomfortable encounters or events as an opportunity to see it all differently through the Holy Spirit’s corrective principle.  Every time you or I step out of the dream, we are bringing all our brothers with us and closer to remembrance.  That is no small accomplishment.  May this approach protect you from being immersed in your personal or the world’s drama and reaffirm the one and only truth of God’s creation, which can suffer no harm.

HOLY SPIRIT I GIVE YOU MY DREAM OF THIS APPEARANCE AND ALL THE FEELINGS AND BELIEFS I HAVE ABOUT IT…..HELP ME TO IGNORE ALL EGO THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS AND SIMPLY TO BRING IT TO YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN IF NECESSARY, UNTIL I AM AT PEACE IN THE REMEMBRANCE OF GOD’S CREATION—WHICH IS FOREVER AT PEACE AND IN JOY—WITHOUT CONCERN OR WORRY….AMEN

It might also help to recall how this is expressed in the “Course.”  If we go to CH 14, Sec XI. Para. 6.7, we find this: When your peace is threatened or disturbed in any way, say to yourself: “I do not know what anything, including this, means.  And so I do not know how to respond to it.  And I will not use my own past learning as the light to guide me now.”  By this refusal to attempt to teach yourself what you do not know, the Guide Whom God has given you will speak to you.  He will take His rightful place in your awareness the instant you abandon it, and offer it to Him.
